Halle Berry Is Aretha Franklin’s Choice For Movie Biopic

Published on January 14, 2011 by Craig Kell   ·   She recently rejected the option of playing Oprah Winfey in a biopic but now Oscar winning actress Halle Berry is being tipped to play the role of soul singing legend Aretha Franklin in a film version of her life.
Franklin spoke to chat show host Wendy Williams via telephone link on Williams’s show (reported by MTV) and revealed that the first draft of the script was being made while Berry was in negotiations to take on the part. Looks like this could be a potential ‘real deal’:
“Halle Berry is my pick. There’s a young Aretha that has yet to be named, but for the last four years, we’ve been talking about the film, and I have had a number of offers. Unfortunately, they were not good offers. Now, we have something on the table. They have all of the financing on one project and the second project, and he’s in the process of writing things for me to approve on the tele-film.”
If the film does eventually go ahead it could lead to another award-baity role for Berry who has been mostly down with her films recently, though upcoming drama Frankie & Alice should offer some resistance from her critics and gain her the acclaim that won her the Oscar for Monster’s Ball in 2001. But when it comes to playing Aretha Franklin, she’ll really have to play the role well and gain the R.E.S.P.E.C.T from the soul legend!
