‘Extant’ Premiere Breaks Ratings Records On Amazon Prime Instant Video UK
Extant has broken Amazon Prime Instant Video UK’s rating records, the streaming service has announced.
Much like Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video UK do not release specific metrics for any of their series and, while they did not reveal how many people watched the series premiere on Extant in the past 24 hours, Amazon said that requests for the episode were three times higher than those for an opening episode of any other TV series in the history of the streaming serviceIt is understood that the first day viewing figures for the series premiere of the Halle Berry fronted drama even outpaced the first day figures of the second season of Vikings. That makes Extant the top performing show amongst Amazon Prime Instant Video UK’s crop of exclusive series, outperforming numerous Amazon originals including Alpha House and Betas.
Extant is a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut (Halle Berry) trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. The cast also includes Camryn Manheim, Michael O’Neill, Grace Gummer, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada and Goran Visnjic.
The drama series was created by newcomer Mickey Fisher and is produced by Amblin Television in association with CBS Television Studios. The executive producers are Steven Spielberg, Greg Walker, Mickey Fisher, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
Amazon secured the exclusive UK rights to Extant back in May in a landmark deal with international distributor CBS Studios International after beating off competition from a number of traditional UK broadcasters. New episodes of Extant premiere on Amazon Prime Instant Video UK every Thursday, mere hours after they air state-side on CBS.
“Extant is a new frontier for our service, with its Hollywood pedigree and star studded cast, this exclusive marks our commitment to offering customers access to some of the most anticipated shows in the world, said Russell Morris, Marketing & Merchandising Director of Amazon Prime Instant Video. “With premiere figures outstripping our hugely popular exclusive show Vikings, Extant looks set to be the television event of the summer.”
