Indie Wire - Cloud Atlas 6 minute Trailer - WOW

Watch: Staggeringly Ambitious, Visually Impressive 6-Minute Trailer For The Wachowski's and Tom Tykwer's 'Cloud Atlas'

Well, damn. After a prolonged period of radio silence, this week has seen a flurry of activity regarding "Cloud Atlas," the adaptation of David Mitchell's acclaimed best-seller by Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer andAndy Wachowski. On Tuesday, it was announced that the film would make its world premiere at theToronto International Film Festival, yesterday saw the first images start to leak out, and overnight, the first trailer for the film leaked online (courtesy of JoBlo). And, boy, what a trailer.
Running close to six minutes (somewhat appropriate for a film that weighs in at 164 minutes altogether), it's our first look at the film's eclectic cast, which includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Bae Doona, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, Keith David, James D'Arcy and Hugo Weaving,  and the disparate worlds that the directors have created; namely, a Pacific sea expeditiion in the 19th century, Belgium in the 1930s, San Francisco in the 1970s, London in the present day, Korea in a dystopian future, and Hawaii at the end of time.
As big fans of the book, we've wondered for some time if the filmmakers would be able to come anywhere close to the book, but we have to confess that this is pretty stunning, for the most part. The production values look incredibly high, the scope and ambition and variety is like nothing else we've seen in a long time, and the cast, aided by some excellent make-up, look to be rising to the occasion; we can't remember the last time we saw Hanks or (more briefly) Grant look so engaged in their material (and if you've ever wanted to see Hanks as a goateed, balding London gangster, or Grant as a warpainted cannibal, the chance has finally arrived).
We have no idea what you'll make of this if you're unfamiliar with the book. And we have no clue if this'll actually work as a whole. Neither the Wachowskis nor Twyker have been totally on their game for a while, and there's stuff that gives us pause here; Halle Berry's flat line readings, Jim Sturgess in Asian-face, some clunky lines. But we're also sort of in love with the sheer boldness of what they're trying, and we're dying to see more. So what do you think? Does it look like an under-the-radar film of the year contender? Or the next "Southland Tales?" Let us know in the comments section once you've watched the trailer below (an HD version should be along before the end of the day; we'll update as and when it comes in.) "Cloud Atlas" will premiere at TIFF in about six weeks, before hitting theaters on October 26th, 2012.

Andy and Lana Wachowski (the Matrix trilogy) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) co-wrote and co-directed this adaptation of David Mitchell’s 2004 novel Cloud Atlas (out in theaters Oct. 26). As if that weren’t complicated enough, each cast member plays multiple roles in the film’s kaleidoscopic tale, which includes a sci-fi story of a man (Tom Hanks) who meets an emissary from an advanced civilization (Halle Berry), and a darkly comic yarn about a composer (Jim Broadbent) and his apprentice (Ben Whishaw). “We thought about these individual characters as aspects of larger characters,” Lana Wachowski says. “Their lives are interwoven over one big story that takes place over a thousand years.”

Halle Berry's daughter Nahla happily skips along licking a bright lollipop

Sweets for her sweetie: Halle Berry's daughter Nahla happily skips along licking a bright lollipop after arts and crafts session

By Daily Mail Reporter

If there's one way to make a child happy, give her a big, round, colourful lollipop.
And the sweet treat trick clearly worked for actress Halle Berry today as her daughter Nahla looked delighted on their day out together.
The four-year-old was as cute as a button as she held the treat tight, taking big licks as she skipped down the street, holding her mother's hand.

Simple pleasures: Nahla made an adorable sight
The 45-year-old actress and her look alike daughter had just been enjoying time together at Color Be Mine, a ceramic shop in Beverly Hills.

There, the pair painted a clay pot and a clay cat, which will be fired and glazed by staff and ready for pick up in a few days.
Nahla was dressed in an adorable blue outfit paired with pink trainers. Her hair is now so long, it's halfway down her back.
Halle looked beautiful, as always in a pair of loose fitting jeans cuffed at the ankle and paired with a baggy white T-shirt.
The actress has said she wants to whisk the child away for a new life in France with fiance Olivier Martinez.
Her wish to move away from Los Angeles is being contested by Nahla's biological father, French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry.
Aubry is requesting the courts that the girl stay in Malibu, where Halle now has a home, because she'll be able to safely attend local schools.

The Oscar winner insists, though, that life in Hollywood is unsafe under the ever present paparazzi.
While Nahla looked joyous on the outing, Halle may have had other things on her mind.
The Catwoman actress was injured last week on the set of her new movie, The Hive, and taken to the hospital after hitting her head on set.

Ursula Andress voted best Bond beach body of all time (and Halle comes second)

Licence to thrill: Ursula Andress voted best Bond beach body of all time (and Daniel Craig comes in third!)

Actress Ursula Andress has been voted Britain’s all-time favourite Bond beach babe.
She topped the poll thanks to the unforgettable moment when her character Honey Ryder - emerged from the ocean in the 1962 film Dr No that starred Sean Connery as agent James Bond.
The Swiss actress’s sex appeal was undeniable - all blonde hair, bronzed body and that belted white bikini - complete with knife holster - makes her the number one choice for Bond fans, according to department store Debenhams.

It was the first ever James Bond movie made - and won Andress, who is now 76, a Golden Globe for her performance - and its award-winning aesthetic has more than stood the test of time.
Halle Berry, 45, who played Jinx Johnson in Die Another Day, followed by a surprise entry for 44-year-old Bond actor Daniel Craig - who is clearly considered an extremely popular 'Beach Babe' among women voters.
Debenhams, who carried out the survey, noted that the winning Bond girls had one thing in common - their curvy figures.
Debenhams spokeswoman Sasha Nagalingam said: 'The voluptuous look is still coveted by women - and enjoyed by men - all over the country.
'A fuller figure is still considered to be a mark of true beauty - and no one should be worried about showing it off to good effect on the beach this summer.'
Daniel Craig sent sales of 'budgie-smugglers' soaring when he stepped out of the sea in his GrigioPerla shorts in the 2006 Bond film Casino Royale

The department store says that demand for gel-filled, cleavage-boosting bikini tops have already increased by 132 per cent since last year - a sighat n twomen are looking for a curvier look on the beach this season.
Trends for men's swimwear have changed too - in large part thanks to the Bond effect.
After Daniel Craig stepped out of the sea in his short blue GrigioPerla trunks in the 2006 film Casino Royale (and set the female of the species' collective heart a-fluttering), sales of tight trunks soared, while sales of baggy surf shorts plummeted.
In response, Debenhams say this year they are stocking 24 per cent more retro-style slim fit trunks than they were last year.
But now, the influential actor is set to have the a similar effect - as he emerges from the ocean in the new Bond film Skyfall out in October wearing a different pair of baby blue shorts.
This time round Daniel Craig will be wearing a pair of Setter shorts by luxury British swimwear designer Orlebar Brown (www.orlebarbrown.co.uk).
The £125 swim shorts are already a firm favourite with celebrities including Hugh Jackman and Jamie Redknapp - and the looser style is likely to send swimwear sales on yet another tangent.

That, readers, is the power of the Bond beach babe.

Her spokesperson has insisted that her hospitalisation this week was just a precaution, and indeed Halle Berry did look fighting fit and in good spirits today.
The actress was back on the set of The Hive in Los Angeles, where she suffered a nasty fall a few days ago and was rushed to emergency in an ambulance.
The 45-year-old star was joined by her adorable daughter Nahla, who looked like she was having a ball running around the set.

Little Nahla, four, looked adorable in pink sundress and ballet flats, with her famous ringlets tumbling down her back.

The youngster was seen dashing about in between trailers and crew members, and watching her mother in action from a director's chair.
Berry was wearing the same jeans, boots and grey vest top that she was seen in the day of her accident this week.

In between takes, Halle tended to her daughter, and held her hand as they made their way back to her trailer.
The mother-daughter duo were seen sharing a laugh together, Halle's frightening accident now a distant memory.
The actress was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in LA after falling and hitting her head on the set of the film on Wednesday.

In a statement to MailOnline, Halle's publicist said: 'Halle suffered a minor head injury while shooting a fight sequence on the set of her film, The Hive.
'She was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but she checked out healthy and was released. She'll continue production as planned.'
Halle had been seen looking in good spirits on the movie set earlier in the day, and waved to fans while the crew set up shots on location in southern central Los Angeles.

The thriller, which is set against the backdrop of a 911 call centre, also stars Abigail Breslin, who first shot to fame in Little Miss Sunshine.
Halle plays a 911 emergency operator who takes a call from a teenage girl, who has been abducted and carried away in the boot of a car.
The kidnapping plays out in real time as the pair work together to track down the killer.

It's not the first time Halle has been injured while filming. In 2011, Halle broke her foot while filming the movie adaptation of David Nicholls' novel Cloud Atlas in Spain.
It was reported at the time that Halle's injury occurred in between filming as she spent time with her daughter Nahla at the property she was renting in Palma de Mallorca.
Meanwhile, the actress is currently embroiled in an intense custody battle for Nahla with former boyfriend, Calvin Klein model Gabriel Aubry.

The Monster's Ball star has hired the best legal guns in LA and taken Gabriel to court dozens of times in a bid to gain full custody of Nahla.
The actress has said she wants to move with her daughter to France to live with actor fiancé, Olivier Martinez.
The case is due to go to trial in a later this month and the parents are expected to take the stand against one another.
