The Orchard has released the first photos to Turkish-French writer/director Deniz Gamze Ergüven‘s race drama “Kings,” starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry and Daniel Craig.
The film will have its World Premiere at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival.
The film is a drama set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of the police officers charged with the 1992 excessive beating of Rodney King, which was caught on tape. Berry plays a “strong, protective” single mother living in South Central, Los Angeles, where the riots began; and Craig portrays Ollie, a loner who lives in South Central and falls in love with Berry’s character. When the riots erupt, he helps Berry in protecting her children from the violence.
Featured in the film are Douglas Spain, Lamar Johnson, Issac Ryan Brown, Kaalan Walker and Rachel Hilson.
Erguven, who directed the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated French drama “Mustang,” is making her English language debut.
Maven Pictures co-founders Trudie Styler, Celine Rattray and Charlotte Ubben executive produced alongside Wei Han of Bliss Media. Maven and Bliss also co-financed the film. It is produced and co-financed by Charles Gillibert of CG Cinema. He also produced “Mustang.”
“Kings” is also co-produced by Canal Plus, France 2 Cinema and Ad Vitam in France, and by Scope Pictures in Belgium.
The Orchard is planning a fall release for the film.

Halle Berry looked nowhere near her 50 years as she trod the red carpet for her new film Kidnap in Miami on Monday evening.
The Academy Award-winning actress had slid into a white cold-shoulder mini-dress with frills surrounding the carved-out sections over her arms.
Its V-neck dipped to offer a generous view of the star's cleavage, and a bit of fringe encircled its mid-thigh hem, which allowed her to show off her knockout legs.

The top half of the full-sleeved dress featured a Grecian sort of drapery over the front of it, and Halle had accessorized the look with a gleaming pair of drop earrings.
Dark gold ankle-strap stilettos completed the ensemble for the Cleveland-born erstwhile Bond girl, who'd tucked her hair behind her ears for the evening's event.
Halle also spent time there with the rakishly handsome 47-year-old director Luis Prieto, helmsman of Kidnap, which will be out in American movie theaters August 4.

The pair of them leaned into each other and smiled for the camera while onstage, having turned themselves so that the audience and room were visible behind them.

With a script by Knate Gwaltney, the film follows Halle's character Karla as she desperately tails her kidnapped small son in a frantic attempt to safely retrieve him.
Christopher Berry, Chris McGinn, Sage Correa, Dana Gourrier, Malea Rose, Lew Temple, Jason Winston George and Ritchie Montgomery are all in Kidnap, per IMDb.
Halle's upcoming films include Kings, a drama set around the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, sequel to 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Colin Firth can’t say a thing. The surprise returning star of Kingsman: The Golden Circle joined his cast mates at San Diego Comic-Con to help hype Matthew Vaughn‘s sequel to 2014 spy adventure Kingsman: The Secret Service. And the first question from Yahoo Movies is probably yours too: How the heck is his character, Harry “Galahad” Hart, back after getting shot in the head in Secret Service?
“I’ve come 6,000 miles to promote it and then I’m not supposed to really talk,” he replies. “I’m decoration.”
Fortunately, the rest of the ensemble — returning star Taron Egerton (Eggsy, a.k.a. the new Galahad) and the American secret-agent force known as the Stateman played by Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, and Pedro Pascal — was much more forthcoming about the new film, breaking down the plot for Yahoo Movies. The sequel finds Eggsy traveling to the U.S. to team up with the Statesman to bring down the notorious drug gang called the Golden Circle, led by the nefarious Poppy (Julianne Moore).
Bridges explained who the Statesman are. “Our cover [is] we’re booze-makers. We distill bourbon in Kentucky. These guys,” he says gesturing to Egerton and Firth, “are named after Knights of the Roundtable. We’re named after booze. I’m Champagne…”
“Tequila,” says Tatum.
“Whiskey,” says Pascal.
“I’m a mixer,” adds Berry. “I’m Ginger Ale.”
As evident in the trailer released at Comic-Con, the film amps up the action. But can they top the signature scene from Secret Service, where Hart takes out an entire church full of attackers.
“There is a church fight, it goes on about a quarter of the movie,” Bridges deadpans.
“The one [scene] from the first movie, they just dropped in,” quips Egerton.
Adds Bridges, “But it’s in a synagogue.”
Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens Sept. 22.
