Halle Berry and daughter Nahla nail laid-back holiday chic as they prepare to celebrate the 4th July

It was a three day weekend with today being the 4th Of July for Americans - and Halle Berry looked the picture of relaxed holiday chic as she took daughter Nahla out to join friends for early celebrations yesterday.

Halle, 44, looked incredible as ever in cut-off denim shorts with the pockets showing, a navy and white striped vest and a cream baker boy cap and flip flops.

But nothing could overshadow her daughter Nahla, who looked almost edible in her candy-striped sun dress, frilly knickerbockers and pink jelly shoes.

Halle was also carrying Nahla's cute little bag bearing the words 'Peace' and 'Love'.

The Monster's Ball star had earlier been seen buying party supplies and was thought to have been throwing a pre-4th Of July party herself.

The three-year-old was also intently sucking on some kind of tinsel-covered toy as she walked along.

However, it looked like she couldn't decide whether to wear her hair up or down in the heat.

It was nice to see mother and daughter looking so happy and relaxed following a week of increasingly acrimonious exchanges in her custody battle with ex Gabriel Aubry over Nahla.

The pair clearly planned a weekend of partying, and had started early on Friday, when Nahla went to another pre-July 4th party clutching a tartan monkey and wearing a pretty purple dress and home-made party crown.

At the start of last week, Halle was back in court with her powerhouse attorney Laura Wasser in the latest round of her custody battle with her former boyfriend, the father of her daughter.

Her lawyer presented the custody judge with a thick folder detailing all of Aubry's alleged wrongdoings, according to U.S. website RadarOnline.com.

The Oscar-winning star is claiming that Nahla's father broke the rules of their custody agreement and even went so far as to allege he has been negligent in his care of the three-year-old.

'Halle has been coming down hard on Gabe recently,' a source told Radar.

'If he drops off Nahla just five minutes late or is not exactly on time when he picks her up, he gets it in the ear, big time.

'Then he is criticised for not taking Nahla to the "right kind of places" when he's with her, not dressing her correctly, not feeding her the right kind of foods.
