Secrets of an A-list body: Halle Berry's waist

Secrets of an A-list body: Halle Berry's waist

We reveal how to get the enviable physiques of the stars.
This week: Halle Berry's waist.

Halle Berry, 47, is regarded as one of the fittest women in Hollywood, and keeps up her exercise regimen despite running around after her two children.
Halle does cardio work, kickboxing, hill-walking or stair running, free weights and core strengthening

Five days a week, she does a 25-minute, high-intensity session with a personal trainer - including cardio work, kickboxing, hill-walking or stair running, free weights and core strengthening.
The tough sessions are the equivalent of an hour-long workout at a more sedate pace.
    What to try:
The standing oblique flexion targets the oblique and abdominal muscles around the waist.
With a dumbbell or bottle of water in each hand, stand with feet shoulder-width apart and elbows slightly bent with palms (and the weights) facing inwards.

Keep your abs tight and slowly slide the right weight down the outside of the right thigh as far as you can, bending the torso from the waist but keeping the hips square to the front.
Hold for two seconds, then slowly draw back. Repeat 12 times on each side.

1 in 4 would pay the price for a great body

About a fourth of Americans would rather have a dream body for the rest of their lives than win $1 million in the lottery, according to a new poll of 1,000 adults.
And almost half say if they were granted a single wish, they'd rather be at their ideal weight than be five years younger.
"A dream body is almost a two-fer. If you are at an ideal weight you'll not only look great but you'll probably live longer," says Bruce Daggy, vice president of research and development for Nutrisystem, which sponsored the survey. "We know that a healthy weight is associated with healthy aging."
Bonnie Taub-Dix, a registered dietitian in New York City and nutrition blogger on food.usatoday.com, says, "Many people wish they could have a better body without realizing that the power is in their hands the hands that lift their forks. I've been counseling people for decades who wish they could be as thin as their friends, but they fail to realize that their friends are not eating large portions or multiple snacks during the day."
Currently about 66% of people in the U.S. are overweight or obese, which puts them at a greater risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases.
Other findings from the poll, conducted by Kelton Research for the diet company:

•When they gain weight, about half of people say they have less energy; a fourth have more stress.

•When they are trying to lose weight, more than half of dieters say they compare themselves to someone else, often friends, co-workers, siblings or celebrities.

    • About a quarter of women say that Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry have the kind of bodies they want; almost half of men say they'd like Matthew McConaughey's bod.

•First Lady Michelle Obama has the best arms of any famous female; actor Vin Diesel is the male celebrity with the best arms.
