'She thinks she's special': Halle Berry on her custody battle for Nahla... and why she wants to move daughter to France

Halle Berry has opened up about her plans to move her daughter Nahla to France, insisting it is in her daughter's best interests.

The actress is currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle with her ex-partner Gabriel Aubry over their four-year-old.

'It's the appeal of privacy and a greater sense of safety for Nahla,' she told InStyle magazine.

'Because we are followed all the time, she is starting to feel like she is somehow special, and of course she is, but I want her to understand that she's special because of who she is, not because she was born into this celebrity blender.'

Halle, 46, made a rare comment about her custody battle.

'There is turbulence, but this too shall pass,' she said.

And she said the dispute had caused her to delay her wedding to French actor Olivier Martinez.

She told the magazine: 'I'm not sure where I am going to be living in the next few months, so I have to get that settled first.'

When she finally does settle down and wed Olivier, Halle - who has been divorced twice, from David Justice and Eric Benét - wants it to be an intimate affair.

She added: 'I do know it will be very small. I haven't been to many weddings, but I went to one this weekend with 250 guests. I thought, "Wow - so this is a wedding, huh?" I've never had that, nor have I wanted that.

'I wasn't even trying to catch the bouquet.'

Halle Berry is InStyle’s November cover girl! In this issue, the 46-year-old Oscar-winning actress, star of the already-buzzed-about Cloud Atlas (in theaters October 26th), and mother to Nahla Ariel talks about one of the greatest lessons she’s learned over the years—trusting herself. “Throughout my career I have been talked out of things I wanted to do, and when I look back I think, I should have followed my instincts,” Berry said. She utilizes that trust not only in her professional career, but in her personal life as well, especially with husband-to-be Olivier Martinez, who she’s been with since 2010. “I’m a hopeless romantic, and I won’t stop till I get it right!” Now she knows better than ever what she wants from her partner. “He’s silly, a clown, and very much the life of the party, which is good for someone like me,” she said. “Danny Downer…been there, done that. Now I like Louie Lightfoot!” And as for all of the challenges ahead, she’s ready for them. “Don’t stress about your age or fight it,” she advised. “Appreciate the young women who look like you once did, but don’t strive to be like them.
