Meryl Streep's daughter will play a recurring character in the new drama series developed for CBS by Steven Spielberg.
In the summer drama "Extant," featuring Halle Berry in the role of the protagonist, Molly, Grace Gummer will play Julia, who works closely with Molly's husband, John.
The serialized mystery thriller will revolve around Molly's return to Earth after a year-long mission in space.
While struggling to reconnect with her loved ones after the long absence, the astronaut must also investigate certain disturbing occurrences which are seemingly related to her recent mission, and which could change the face of the planet.
Grace Gummer will work closely with Goran Visnjic, the Croatian actor best known for playing a doctor on "ER," which was also produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin TV.
Michael O'Neill, currently in theaters in "Dallas Buyers Club," will also appear in "Extant" as Alvin Sparks, a former astronaut who has become the director of the privatized space program at the heart of the series.
At age 27, Meryl Streep's daughter has already appeared in a number of TV series, including "Smash," "The Newsroom" and "American Horror Story."
CBS will air the first episode of "Extant" on July 2, 2014.
