Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry admits she's faced career obstacles as a woman of colour

'I've always had a hard time getting roles': Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry admits she's faced career obstacles as a woman of colour

She's one of the world's most esteemed actresses and has starred in major blockbusters including X-Men and Catwoman.
But Halle Berry admits she's struggled to be offered roles because of her ethnicity and believes that being mixed race is more of an obstacle than ageing for women in Hollywood.
The 48-year-old star - whose mother Judith is Caucasian, while her father Jerome is African American - opened up about her experience in an interview with The Guardian's G2.

Quizzed whether she agrees that roles for women over 40 are limited, Halle replied: 'I've always had a hard time getting roles, being of colour, so I've got as many available to me as I've always had - there's no difference for me'.
Halle is the only black star to date to win the Best Actress Oscar, which she took home in 2002 for her performance in hard-hitting drama Monster's Ball, a fact she feels 'disappointed' about.
However, the screen star is confident things are changing and believes talent will prevail.

'The real win is when we're not just selling stories of colour, that people of colour can be in everyday stories.'
Halle turned her hand to TV last year with a starring role in Amazon series Extant, which she also produces.

Released theatrical earlier this year by Codeblack Films/Lionsgate after a 2013 pickup, Halle Berry's "Sybil"-like tale, "Frankie & Alice," enjoyed a brief run, grossing a relatively healthy $695,000, considering the fact that the film had been in release-Limbo for a good 3 years, the length of time it was in theaters (4 weeks), and its widest theater count (171).
Thus, assuming many of you weren't able to see it while it was in theaters, you'll be pleased to know that the home entertainment release of Frankie & Alice, a film that earned star Halle Berry a Golden Globe nomination in 2011, is today, August 12, and Shadow & Act has an exclusively behind-the-scenes look at the film, via a clip that is included in the film's extras.
The film, which hails from the executive producers of "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge," and also features Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Phylicia Rashad and Chandra Wilson, is out today, August 12, on DVD, Digital HD, Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View, courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment and Codeblack Films.
The film's official synopsis reads;
The remarkable true story of an African American go-go dancer named "Frankie" who has dissociative identity disorder (DID). She struggles to retain her true self while fighting against two very unique alter egos: a seven-year-old named "Genius" and a Southern white racist woman named "Alice." In order to stop the multiple voices in her head, Frankie (Halle Berry) works with a psychotherapist (Stellan Skarsgård) to uncover and overcome the mystery of the inner ghosts that haunt her, and the truth that is locked inside her mind.
