Portraying legendary actress Dorothy Dandridge in the biopic Introducing Dorothy Dandridge was for Halle Berry an opportunity to pay homage to the first African-American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for best actress. It also provided a major boost to Berry's career in the form of the industry's most prestigious awards. On Jan. 23, 2000, she won the Golden Globe Award for best actress in a miniseries or motion picture made for television.
The role also earned her a Primetime Emmy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an NAACP Image Award. In addition, Berry was a co-producer of the HBO project and fought to ensure it got made.
Dandridge's Oscar nomination was for her leading role in Carmen Jones. Although she lost to actress Grace Kelly, it seemed like the start of something big, including the cover of Life magazine. Racism, however, prevented Dandridge from achieving the roles and acclaim many believe she deserved.

"If I were Betty Grable, I could capture the world," she told the New York Times.
Instead, her only other comparable role was that of Bess opposite Sidney Poitier in Porgy and Bess.

Dandridge also was challenged by two failed marriages, the birth of a severely handicapped child who required 24-hour care and significant financial difficulties that led to a nervous breakdown. She was found dead in her home on Sept. 8, 1965, from a barbiturate overdose and reportedly had just $2 in her bank account.
"You have to find a way to be sad on every day, in every scene, in every moment. And always try to hide the sadness. And (then) you'll get the essence of who she was," Berry said in her Golden Globe acceptance speech.

Grammy Nominated Song of the Year by Bruno Mars Written About Halle Berry
Singer Bruno Mars has a real thing for actress Halle Berry, but then again so do a lot of people. The stunningly beautiful African-American actress has been a media & film darling for the past two decades. Now, the song about his wistful desire to make passionate love with a woman he disclosed was Berry is nominated for the 2014 Grammy Award for “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year”.
If Mars is able to win either award or both, it will be the crowning event on a hugely successful recording. To date, the recording has sold 6.3 million copies globally. In addition, it peaked at number one in Canada, the United States, Hungary, Slovakia, Lebanon, Mexico, Poland, and Venezuela. Indeed, it was an international hit song.
At the time of the song’s release, Mars was interviewed in regards to whom he referred to with the statement about the physical union with this person taking him to paradise. Speaking to the host of UK’s Capitol FM radio station, Mars came clean that he was fantasizing about Berry. He also expressed the fact that the lyrics are very personal to him. It will be interesting to get Berry’s take on the song should it win a Grammy.

People's Exclusive Photos: Go Behind-the-Scenes With Olivia Wilde and Halle Berry On Set for Revlon

One thing that a be definitely said for Revlon: They certainly know how to pick beautiful faces. And as much as we like seeing them all glammed up (like Olivia Wilde and Emma Stone here), we especially love when the line lets their natural beauty shine through. And for the next campaign, it looks like we’re going to get just that.

In these exclusive behind-the-scenes photos from Wilde and Halle Berry‘s first Revlon shoot together, the stars’ looks are noteworthy almost as much for what they don’t feature (fancy hair, tons of makeup, glamorous outfits) as what they do. Dressed simply in black dresses, with relaxed, loose hair, the stars look like they could have just come in from a walk on the beach — they’re glowing, radiant and serene.

For the shoot, directed by John Cameron Mitchell, Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman used Revlon’s Age Defying makeup collection to perfect their skin, then highlighted their striking cheekbones and eyes with neutral, shimmering bronzes, a little liner and mascara and some rosy blush. Simple gloss completed the look, leaving all the focus on the stars’ enviable complexions.
Keep up with Halle Berry in the pages of PEOPLE Magazine by subscribing now.
And despite the major A-list atmosphere on set, there were no diva moments — the two megastars got along famously. We would have loved to overhear any new mom advice Berry imparted to mom-to-be Wilde. Perhaps she was recommending Age Defying makeup as a quick fix for sleep deprived skin?
What do you think of the stars’ latest ad campaign? Are you excited to see the finished product?
