Halle Berry Set for Major Role in ''Kingsman' Franchise
When Kingsman: The Secret Service comes back for round two, Halle Berry could be coming with it.
Deadline is reporting that the actress is close to joining the franchise about British gentleman spies for two upcoming sequels to play a top boss at the CIA.Kingsman 2, as Collider previously reported, will take the franchise international. Taron Egerton previously said this:
Obviously there’s only so much I can say but what I can say is that we shot [the first] one all in the U.K., that won’t be the case with the next one. It’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson—this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing.”
Along with Berry, Julianne Moore has also been in talks to play the new villain in the sequel to the R-rated action film that became a surprise hit when it pulled in more than $400 million in the summer of 2015 (and freaked out a few people with that controversial anal sex scene).
Kingsman 2 is officially set for release on June 16, 2017, though there aren't any other plot details yet. The film is supposed to begin shooting this summer.
Joining a major hit franchise would be a nice move for Berry. Things haven't been going perfect for her over the past year. Her kinda weird CBS sci-fi dramaExtant was canceled after two seasons and then news broke that she was getting divorced from her husband Olivier Martinez after less than two years. Berry hasn't appeared in a film since 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, though she's set to appear in Kidnap, about a mother who will stop at nothing to recover her abducted son, due out in May.
