Halle Berry and Tom Hanks are both starring in the same film.

But it looks like Berry got the short straw when it came to movie locations when she ended up freezing in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, her co-star Hanks was spotted soaking up the sun in Majorca, Spain.

The pair are just two of an ensemble cast starring in the big-screen adaptation of David Mitchell's novel Cloud Atlas - a collection of six different stories set between the 19th century to the post-apocalyptic future.

Berry's part in the film sees her in Glasgow - which is doubling for Seventies California, while Hanks' role requires him to set sale on the Mediterranean sea - aka Pacific Ocean on-screen.

While Hanks was spotted chatting to cast and crew on the Balearic island, Berry had an action packed day.

Dressed in her Seventies-era clothes and a bobbed wig, the 45-year-old managed an impressive feat - running in heeled loafers during the dramatic sequence.

It looked like her character Luisa Rey was trying to escape from Hugo Weaving's villainous character, who was spotted in hot pursuit carrying a gun.

The 45-year-old is one of a host of A-listers taking part, with fellow heavyweight Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving and Hugh Grant all in the cast.

Having recently returned from holiday in sunny Majorca with daughter Nahla and her boyfriend Olivier Martinez will no doubt have made the Glasgow cold all the more biting.

Earlier in the day she had been spotted dressed in multiple layers, a puffy jacket, and wore a hat as she dressed for the weather, evoking another 70s classic as she headed to an eatery with her minder.

A month after Glasgow was transformed into Philadelphia for Brad Pitt's new movie, this week it's doubling as San Francisco in 1975.

In Halle's part of the film journalist Luisa Rey investigates reports of corruption and murder at a nuclear power plant, a story reminiscent of classic movie The China Syndrome, which was released later on that decade.

Cloud Atlas contains six stories set in a different time and place that become intricately related to each other.

Character details have yet to be released, but like other cast members Halle will be playing multiple roles in different storylines.

The film is based on the acclaimed novel by English author David Mitchell.

In the original book there are six different threads, starting with an American notary's boat journey home from the remote Chatham Islands, east of New Zealand, and ending in a post-apocalyptic distant future.

Mr Mitchell said of his book: "All of the characters except one are reincarnations of the same soul, identified by a birthmark.

'The cloud refers to the ever-changing manifestations of the atlas, which is the fixed human nature.

'The book's theme is predatory - individuals prey on individuals, groups on groups, nations on nations.'

A host of British talent will also feature in the film, with Jim Sturgess and Ben Whishaw also among the ensemble.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer star Ben, 30, let slip some of the details about his involvement in a recent interview.

He said: 'I'm doing three. Frobisher in the thirties; a female American in the seventies, in the Luisa Rey section; and a smallish role, where I'm basically an extra, in a modern-day nursing home, in the Timothy Cavendish section.'
