The aged jewel thief Halle Berry was once billed to play in a biopic has been arrested again in California. Doris Payne, 83, was back behind bars on Wednesday (30Oct13) after allegedly stealing a ring from a store in Palm Desert. She was arrested on Tuesday (29Oct13) on suspicion of felony larceny after allegedly trying to leave a Riverside County jewellery store with a ring she hadn't paid for on 21 October (13). Payne, who is the subject of the documentary The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne, has been jailed in several states. She has confessed to stealing gems in New York, Las Vegas, London, Paris, Monte Carlo and Tokyo. She was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading no contest to stealing a $16,000 (£10,700) ring from a Santa Monica, California store in 2011 and a further five years for nabbing a ring from a Macy's store in San Diego, California the same year. Halle Berry was attached to portray the international jewel thief in the movie Who is Doris Payne?. Reports suggest the Oscar winner is still attached to the project, but it has yet to start filming.
