She is starring as an astronaut in a new TV drama series.

And Halle Berry was certainly not a typical girl-next-door as she filmed her upcoming sci-fi series Extant in Marina Del Rey, California, on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old actress was seen cosying up to her co-star, former ER actory Goran Visnjic, who plays her scientist husband, John Watts, on the show.

The actress was typically glamorous in a casual ensemble of a taupe jacket, collared top and skin-tight trousers.

She bundled up in between takes in a full-length, padded black coat.

The Monster’s Ball star plays the role of Molly Watts, an astronaut who returns to her family after a year in space on a solo mission.

Extant will follow her as she struggles to re-adapt to family life as a wife and mother.

Her son Ethan, who is not her biological son, is designed by his father as the first prototype of a future line of human robots.

Molly’s return from space has dramatic consequences for the planet and the fate of mankind.

The series is being filmed using an actual NASA shuttle, with wires used to give the effect of gravity.

Steven Spielberg is an executive producer on the show, which also stars Pierce Gagnon and Camryn Manheim.

Last year, CBS announced that a 13-episode order for the series, which by-passed the pilot stage.

Filming began in February, with the series scheduled to air in July 2014.
